2024 Teacher of Merit Award

Webpage last updated: May 08, 2024

Florida History Day annually honors an educator with the Teacher of Merit Award for creative history teaching within and outside the classroom. To be eligible, a teacher must be a participant in the Florida History Day program with at least three years of experience. The individual selected will receive a $500 prize, sponsored by Florida Council for History Education (FLCHE).

Amanda Dogu of Boca Ciega High School in Pinellas County is the 2024 Florida History Day Teacher of Merit

Amanda Dogu has a passion for Florida History Day continuing to use National History Day in her classroom. She works to create an environment where National History Day is exciting to students rather than just another project they must complete. In addition to assisting in with the county contest, she trains fellow teachers on the program and continues to support them throughout the year. As a teacher she looks for ways to stimulate the imagination of her students and to create a classroom experience that is enjoyable for everyone.
